Coach Tommy Acy comes to Central Holmes to serve as first-year head football coach for the 2024 Trojans. He comes from Pillow Academy where he was head of J.V. football and Junior High baseball teams from 2021-2024.
Coach Acy also coached from 2014 to 2021 at Carroll Academy. During his tenure at Carroll, he served as head junior varsity football coach, Varsity Defensive Coordinator, head of Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams, and Athletic Director.
Coach Acy attended Carroll Academy, played football at MDCC, and attended Mississippi State University from which he received a teaching degree.
Coach Acy is a native of Blackhawk, and currently lives in Winona with his wife Katie who is a registered nurse at Accent Care. They have three children. Natalie is a sophomore at Holmes Community College. Landon is in the 8th grade, and Holden is in the 6th grade. They both attend Central Holmes Christian School.
The Trojans lost a big senior class of experienced and talented athletes to graduation. However, they return eleven seniors. They have a senior quarterback, who started a couple games last year, and sophomore quarterback, Aiden Cheek.
Coach Acy instills in his players that football in not an individual sport; no one player makes a team. If each player gives his best, and each is committed to practice and play hard, the team can win. And if the team wins, everybody wins.
Coach Acy also believes in rewarding effort. If a player plays hard, is committed to the team, that athlete will be rewarded with playing time on Friday nights. He states that ”if a player is giving great effort, he will be rewarded with playing time.”
Coach Acy states that his expectations are to win more games than they lose and to go to the playoffs, if they stay healthy.
The 2024 roster consists of 24 players. He hopes to avoid injuries at key positions due to the lack of depth at some positions.
Central Holmes has a demanding schedule. The Trojans start its 2024 football season on August 23 against non-conference opponent Oak Hill in West Point. On August 30, the Trojans play a conference game at West Memphis Christian School. The Trojans will play their first home game on September 6 against Kirk Academy. On September 13, they will host Greenville Christian. The Trojans will then travel to face conference opponent Indianola Academy and then play a non-conference game against French Camp. On October 4, they will host perennial foe Canton Academy and will travel to play Winona Christian School on October 11. The Trojans will celebrate Homecoming on October 18 against Benton Academy. The Trojans will end their regular season play with a game against non-conference opponent Marshall Academy at Holly Springs.
