Larry Wilson Killebrew, 73, of Lexington, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Lexington, Mississippi, on February 27, 1953, Larry was raised in Tchula, Mississippi, where he developed the values of hard work, faith, and dedication that would define his life. He graduated from Cruger-Tchula Academy in 1971 and began farming immediately after high school. A proud second-generation family farmer, he carried on a legacy of stewardship of the land with strength and unwavering commitment for 53 years.
Larry was always deeply rooted in family and community, learning the value of hard work working alongside his family on the family farm. It was through these early years that he developed the quiet strength and steady character that would define his life. He later met the love of his life, Mary Heard, and the two were married in June of 1971. Together, they built a life together centered around faith and family.
Larry also served on the board of Southern Ag Credit for 16 years, where he earned the respect and trust of colleagues and friends alike through his integrity and steady leadership. He had also been a Mississippi Farm Bureau board member and served as the president of the Holmes County Farm Bureau for several years, reflecting his deep commitment to agriculture and advocacy for fellow farmers. A man of several talents and interests, he was also a certified pilot. He was especially proud of his years when he served as commissioner of the Dixie Youth Baseball in Lexington, where he poured into the lives of young people and helped create lasting memories. Larry also served as Chairman of the Deacons of Oregon Memorial Church.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and some of his greatest joys came from the time he spent with his family. He was affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren. His presence was a source of strength, wisdom, and love that will be deeply missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James Wilson Killebrew and Nora Laurie Stricklin Killebrew; his brother James Edward Killebrew; and his son Larry Kevin Killebrew.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Heard Killebrew of Lexington; his sons, Chris Killebrew (Miranda) of Greenwood and Bryan Killebrew of Lexington; his grandchildren, Alex Killebrew (Kasey), Alden Killebrew (Ali), Lydia Killebrew, Weston Killebrew, Kaylin Killebrew, and Kinley Killebrew; his great-grandchildren, Riley and Aubrey Killebrew, Mary Alice Killebrew, and soon-to-be-born Nora Elizabeth Killebrew; and his sisters, Mrs. Peggy Leflore, Mrs. Janice Pullen (Ricky), and Mrs. Mary Ann Diffey.
Pallbearers were Alex Killebrew, Alden Killebrew, Jay McBride, Joey Netherland, Jr., Jace Hamilton, Britton Hatcher, Kenny Fisher, and Kelvin Fisher.
