Clara Ann Jones Bufkin, 79, passed away on August 18, 2024 surrounded by her family at Martha Coker in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Visitation was held at 9:30 on Wednesday, August 21st at Pickens Baptist Church in Pickens, Mississippi followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial immediately followed at Quiet Ridge Cemetery in Pickens.
Clara Ann was born in Attala County, Mississippi on September 2, 1944 to Casey and Velma McCrory Jones. She grew up in the Midway Community and graduated from Benton High School where she was selected Homecoming Queen and Most Beautiful. She graduated from Holmes Junior School of Cosmetology in 1963, but took on her favorite and most passionate role as wife and homemaker when she married Shelby Roger Bufkin of Pickens. She became a mother and flourished in her role enjoying gardening, cooking, and sewing most of all. Later in life, she joined the staff of First Methodist Daycare in Yazoo City where she was affectionately known as the “baby whisperer” due to her nurturing way with the toddlers. She joined Pickens Baptist Church shortly after moving to Pickens and was a member for 61 years where she took on various duties. Her life was committed to her faith and her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Clara Ann is survived by her son, David Roger Bufkin (Cassie) of Pickens and her daughter, Donna Bufkin Heidel (Chip) of Yazoo City; grandsons, Lem Roger Bufkin (Hallie) of Pickens and James “Jim” Harrison Bufkin (Rebecca) of Benton. She had twin four year old great grandsons, Sawyer Shelby Bufkin and Harrison Thomas Bufkin of Benton who brought her great joy; sister, Mary Louise Jones Pittman; niece, Charice Pittman Handford and nephew, Thomas Casey Pittman all of Farmington, Arkansas and nephew, Christopher Lacey Pittman (Claire) of Bentonville, Arkansas and five great nephews.
In addition to her parents, Clara Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years.
The family would like to give their sincere thanks to the compassionate staff at Martha Coker Mariah House for the love and care that they showed and to Adoration Hospice for the additional care they provided.
