Hallie Fancher has been named STAR Student for the 2025-2026 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) M. B. Swayze Foundation, sponsor of the Student Teacher Recognition (STAR) program. Established by the Mississippi Economic Council in 1965, the purpose of the STAR program is to recognize outstanding students and teachers in Mississippi through its Education Celebration.
Hallie is the daughter of Michael and Merideth Fancher of West, MS. She is the granddaughter of Doug and Jean Aldridge of West, and Jerry and Judy Fancher of Brandon, MS.
Hallie has received a number of honors and participated in many activities during her time at Central Holmes.
Hallie is President of the National Honor Society; is President of the Student Council; She is also President of the senior class; She has been a member of the Cheerleader and Basketball teams for the past six years; She receive a Beauty in the Beauty Review; he has been named by her peers in Who’s Who as Most Sophisticated Senior, and Most Likely to Succeed, Miss CHCS; Senior Class Favorite; Campus Favorite; and Homecoming Maid her Junior and Senior years.
After graduation, Hallie plans to attend Holmes Community College, then transfer to complete her degree in Pre-dental Studies, with the ultimate goal of being accepted and completing Dental School Program.
STAR students are selected on the basis of Academic excellence. Both the American College Test (ACT) scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school’s STAR student. “The STAR program encourages and promotes academic achievement among Mississippi’s high school seniors,” said Vickie Powell, Senior Vice President of Foundation for the Mississippi Economic Council.
Each STAR student is asked to designate a class STAR Teacher, the classroom teacher that has made the greatest contribution to the students scholastic achievement.
Hallie designated Ms. Sherron Bevill as STAR Teacher. Miss Bevill is a 1966 graduate of Lexington High School. She attended Holmes Community College from 1967 -1968 and transferred to Delta State University to major in education. She received a BSE in 1970 with a major in Social Science and a minor in Psychology and Physical Education. In 1972 she received a Masters in Education Administration from Delta State University.
Her first teaching assignment was at Lexington High School as a history teacher and Track Coach. While she was at Lexington High School, her team won the State Championship. In the late 1070’s, Miss Bevill received her elementary degree in Remedial Education from Mississippi Valley University. She taught remedial reading to students in 7th through 9th grades for 22 years. She was then chosen as Principal of the Leflore County Elementary and Junior in Itta Bena, MS. She later became Basketball coach and Cheer Leader Sponsor at Amanda High School in Greenwood in 1980. She later became Head Principal of East Junior High School in Greenwood, MS. In 2000, Bevill retired from public school.
After retirement, Ms. Bevill returned to Lexington and became Elementary Principal and teacher in 2001 at Central Holmes Christian School. Over the years, Ms Bevill has taught American History, World History, Psychology, Family Living, Sociology, Economics, and Bible. This year completes,
Miss Bevill,s 58th year in education.
Over 550 STAR Students will be recognized for their exceptional achievement by MEC’s M.B. Swayze Foundation with medallions, certificates and lapel pins. The top 20 STAR Students – The ALL-STAR Scholars – will receive scholarships and their STAR Teacher will receive awards provided by the Kelly Gene Cook, Sr. Charitable Foundation.
The highlight of the STAR program is the naming of the Mississippi ALL-STAR Scholar for 2025-2026 school year and the coveted $24,000 Cook Foundation Scholarship.
The prestigious 2025-2026 Education Celebration will be held on Thursday, April 9 at The Clyde Muse Center in Pearl, Mississippi.
