Elizabeth “Libby” Hammett Dittmar
June 25, 1941-
June 11, 2024
It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Elizabeth “Libby” Hammett Dittmar at the age of 82. Elizabeth passed peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2024.
Libby resided in Oakland Park, Fl at the time of death but Lexington, MS was always in her heart as her home.
Libby was born on June 11, 1941, in Lexington, MS to Dolph and Virgie Hammett. She graduated from Lexington High School and from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in education. She was the owner and operator of a very successful business, DeWind Lock and Safe, in Oakland Park, Fla. for 50 years.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents Dolph and Virgie Hammett, brother Harold Dodd Hammett and Ruth Murtagh. She was the third of eleven children of Dolph and Virgie.
She was generous in giving and quick to point out her commitment to the service of others and always gave back far more than she could ever repay. She was very active as a Cub Scout den mother, a fixture in the Floranada Baseball League for twenty years. She was a member of Quota, an international women’s service organization which provides basic needs to women, children, the deaf and hard of hearing in communities around the world. She traveled throughout the world with Quota Int. assisting with its missions.
She was so proud of her family and loved them all dearly. She is survived by her sons, Damon Todd Dittmar, Dean Dittmar (Marice); grandchildren, Katie, Hadley, Grace, and Troy Dittmar; siblings, Flossie Goode, Richard Hammett, Brenda Adams, Robert Hammett, Sheila Hammett, Notie Turner, Dell Waxman, and Tammy Courts; and many nieces and nephews.
On July 13, a celebration of life was held at First Christian Church of Wilton Manors in Oakland Park, FL.
On July 20, a memorial was held at Beulah Baptist Church in Lexington, MS.
Libby is buried at Lexington Odd Fellows Cemetery with her family whom she loved so dearly.
