DR. CHARLES WALTON CAMPBELL

Dr. Charles Walton Campbell, a beloved physician and community member of Lexington, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was born on August 8, 1933, at Holmes County Community Hospital to Walter Lewis Campbell and Mai Charles Alexander Campbell of West, Mississippi.
He attended and graduated from Durant High School in 1951. Dr. Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Pre-Med) from Millsaps College in 1954. Afterward, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps in England before completing his M.D. degree at the University of Mississippi Medical School in 1961.
Dr. Campbell married Carolyn Elaine Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi, with whom he had three children: Paul Samuel, Charles Glenn and Carolyn Christie.
A respected physician, Dr. Campbell practiced in Lexington, MS, under the name of Brumby and Campbell from 1962 until his death. He served as chief of the medical staff at Holmes County Community Hospital and was active in local, state and national medical associations. He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church and maintained a compassionate presence in his community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, and his parents, Walter and Mai C. He is survived by sons, Paul (Cindy) and Glenn (Virginia) Campbell both of Vicksburg and daughter Christie Campbell Poer of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Wynne Campbell Eng (Chris), Carlton Campbell, Brad Noble (Elizabeth), Craig Noble (Heather), Hayden Poer and Walton Poer (Lucy Jane); great-grandchildren, Campbell Eng and Grayson Noble; and many cherished friends and colleagues.
A memorial service was held Monday, December 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Visitation was held at 10 am in the Howard Allen Educational Building next to the First Presbyterian Church, and the service began at 11 am in the sanctuary.
